A beat-up red pickup truck idles beside me, answering my thumbs plea to hitch a ride. I’m on the side of a quiet road; the moon is bright, a big glowing orb hanging ominously in the night sky. The frost of my breath evaporates under the pale light, and my green army jacket is barely keeping the warmth of my body insulated.
